Saint Cloud Lawn Care & Snow Removal Ordinances
The City of Saint Cloud's actual grass/weed height and sidewalk snow removal ordinances, for residents responsible for their own yard work.
If you rent a home from Davis Ventures, lawn mowing and snow/ice removal at the property are the resident’s responsibility – these are the actual City of Saint Cloud ordinances you’re responsible for keeping up with. This isn’t a Davis Ventures rule; it’s city law, and it applies whether or not you rent from us.
Grass and weeds: 8-inch height limit
Saint Cloud’s Nuisance Ordinance sets a maximum grass and weed height of 8 inches. The city council lowered this from the previous 10-inch limit on July 7, 2025, in part to align with state statute (Minn. Stat. § 412.925).
- Exemption: managed natural landscape areas — including native plantings and pollinator habitat — are exempt from the height limit.
- Enforcement: if a complaint is filed, the city checks the property. Non-compliant owners get a notice and 7–10 days to cut the grass.
- If you don’t comply: the city can mow it for you and bill you. Fines start at $100 and double with each repeat violation, up to $1,000; if the city performs the mowing itself, an administrative fee is added on top of the contractor cost.
Sidewalk snow and ice: 24-hour clock
Under St. Cloud Ordinance 680:05, property owners must clear snow and ice from public sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowfall ends.
- Full width, all sides: clear the sidewalk along every side of your property that borders one, the full width of the walk.
- Corner properties: also clear curb cuts at corners and crosswalks down to the street gutter, for accessibility.
- Ice: remove it down to bare pavement, and treat with salt or sand if needed.
- Where the snow goes: pile it into your own yard or boulevard — it’s against the law to shovel or blow it into the street or alley.
- If you don’t comply: the city can clear it and bill you for the service; unpaid bills are added to your property tax statement.
