Home Cleaning Tips

Practical tips to keep your home cleaner with less day-to-day effort.

A few consistent habits make a much bigger difference than the occasional big cleaning push. Here are some practical tips for keeping a home cleaner day to day.

Work top to bottom, and left to right

Dust and debris fall as you clean. Start with ceiling fans, shelves, and countertops before moving to floors, and work around a room in one direction so you don’t backtrack over spots you’ve already done.

Clean as you go in the kitchen

Wiping counters and washing a dish or two right after use takes a fraction of the time that dealing with a full sink later does. A quick wipe-down of the stovetop after cooking also prevents grease from building up into a harder job.

Keep a few products within reach

A small caddy with an all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, and microfiber cloths under each bathroom sink (or in a central closet) makes it much easier to do quick touch-ups instead of postponing them.

Make your bed every morning

It’s a small habit, but it makes an entire room look tidier instantly and tends to encourage keeping the rest of the room in order too.

Do a 10-minute daily reset

Before bed or first thing in the morning, spend 10 minutes putting things back where they belong — dishes away, surfaces cleared, items returned to their spots. This alone prevents most clutter from accumulating.

Tackle one deep-clean task per week

Rather than trying to deep clean an entire home in one day, rotate through tasks like baseboards, inside the oven, or window tracks — one per week keeps the whole home in good shape without a single overwhelming session.

Let products do the work

For tough buildup like soap scum or grease, spray the cleaner and let it sit for several minutes before scrubbing. This cuts down significantly on the elbow grease required.

Don’t forget the high-touch spots

Light switches, doorknobs, remote controls, and cabinet handles collect grime quickly and are easy to overlook during a regular cleaning pass.

If keeping up with all of this isn’t realistic with your schedule, a recurring cleaning plan handles the deeper, more time-consuming work on a schedule so your daily habits only have to cover the basics.
